Chris Muryn
Morris-Berg Architects
Chris has been working professionally in the fields of architecture and urban design since 2006. After graduating from the University of Kentucky in 2008 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, he found his way to Charlotte to attend UNC Charlotte, where he earned a Master’s in Urban Design. In 2014, Chris became a licensed architect and achieved CPTED CPD Certification in 2024. His design interests range from master planning, considering how a group of buildings fit into a landscape, to detailing those buildings in construction documents.
Throughout his career, Chris has worked on a wide variety of projects, including retail, grocery stores, hospitality, offices, healthcare facilities, parking structures, CCRCs, multifamily housing, K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and mixed-use developments. Inspired by his mother, a middle school math and history teacher, Chris has also embraced teaching. He has served as an adjunct professor at UNC Charlotte in the fall of 2019 and 2024, as well as at Central Piedmont Community College in 2024.
Chris believes that all great places tell a story. He views buildings and landscapes as integral elements that support each other and contribute to a cohesive narrative. His CPTED education has enriched his understanding of the built environment and informed his approach to creating safer, more inviting spaces. He uses this knowledge to enhance facilities reports and incorporate CPTED assessments into long-range facilities plans for his clients. These development plans offer a comprehensive lens to evaluate current site usage and determine appropriate future utilization, whether through new construction or renovations that breathe new life into existing sites.
From 2019 to 2022, Chris served as a commissioner on the Historic District Commission of Charlotte. He also co-chaired the tours and programming for the Congress for the New Urbanism’s (CNU) Congress 31 in Charlotte, NC, organizing over 27 tours of the city and its surroundings. As a guest critic for UNC Charlotte’s Architecture and Urban Design programs, Chris continues to share his expertise with future professionals.
Outside of his professional work, Chris and his wife Lesley are passionate bicyclists. They often bike around town with their two sons, Miles and Anderson, and their dog, Ramsey. The family regularly volunteers with Sustain Charlotte, a local bike advocacy group, and participates in events like Biketoberfest, where Chris and Lesley first met.
