The National Institute of Crime Prevention (NICP) is thrilled to announce that Art Hushen has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor for the University of South Florida (USF). This exciting collaboration highlights the commitment of both NICP and USF to advancing the field of crime prevention and creating future leaders in the profession.
Starting in January 2025, USF’s Department of Criminology will launch an innovative Crime Prevention Master’s Degree Program. Spearheaded by Department Chair, Dr. John Cochran, the program is designed to prepare students for impactful careers in crime prevention while equipping them with external certifications that give them a competitive edge in the job market.
Art Hushen will play a pivotal role in this program by teaching a one-semester Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) course. This course encompasses the NICP’s Basic & Advanced CPTED curriculum. Upon successful completion, students will earn the prestigious NICP CPTED Professional Designation (CPD) Certification, a valuable credential for criminology professionals.
The program’s unique appeal lies in its interdisciplinary approach, welcoming graduate students from various fields such as architecture, urban planning, cybersecurity, and business. By fostering collaboration across disciplines, the program ensures that graduates are equipped with a diverse skill set to tackle crime prevention challenges in innovative ways.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone for both USF and NICP, creating unmatched opportunities for students to thrive academically and professionally. As this partnership takes shape, it reinforces the mission of both organizations to promote excellence in the field of crime prevention and CPTED.
