D. Joshua Troxell is a CPTED practitioner with 30 years’ experience in various safety, security, and emergency management roles. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources from Geneva College and a Master’s Degree in Professional Studies in Homeland Security – Public Health Preparedness from the Penn State College of Medicine at Hershey Medical Center. He served in the US Navy as a submarine volunteer specializing in nuclear mechanics, chemistry, and radiological controls before receiving a NROTC scholarship to Penn State to study chemical engineering and Military Studies (Naval Science). He previously served at Penn State University with roles in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), the College of Engineering Safety, Security, & Emergency Management Coordinator, and as an assistant director and manager of Physical Security for University Police before moving to North Carolina in 2019 to become a Vice-President and Senior Regional Security Consultant for First Citizens Bank. Josh has over 25 years of experience in the emergency services as a firefighter, fire police, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Hazardous Materials Technician, and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) Regional Incident Management team member. He holds a CPP certification from ASIS, is a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP), InfraGard, the Department of Homeland Security community partnership, and several community and disaster relief agencies. He is a published author on various security topics. He currently resides in a rural community on the southeast side of Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife and six children.
