Lin serves as the Chief of Police in Cortland, IL, after serving in St. Charles, IL, for over twenty-six years. He has a diverse and abundant curriculum vitae, including serving as a detective, SWAT officer, firearms range master, field training officer, and sergeant. Lin also serves as vice chairman of the board for the DeKalb County Child Advocacy Center and as a Dekalb School District Safety Committee member.

Since becoming chief of police in 2015, Lin has seen the importance of crime prevention daily. He earned his certification in August of 2022. He has done site surveys for the yearly summer Cortland Days Festival, Cortland Public Library, and Cortland Town Hall. Lin is also an FAA-licensed sUAS pilot.
