Joseph Duffy

City of Maple Heights, Ohio

As a passionate community planning and economic development professional, I have benefited from years of unique experience working within and on behalf of diverse communities. Bridging public, private and nonprofit sectors, my work has contributed to lasting change in localities ranging from vibrant central business districts, residential neighborhoods challenged by blight and vacancy, and evolving suburban environments pivoting toward community health.

As the Director of Planning and Development at the City of Maple Heights, Ohio, I guide implementation of all planning and economic development initiatives, integrate direct oversight for the Building and Housing Departments, and work with community stakeholders to strengthen a vital Northeast Ohio community.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, I hold a Master in Business Administration from Case Western Reserve University, a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and an [IN]City Program Certificate in Urban Planning from the University of California at Berkeley. Additionally I am a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), dually certified in Economic Development and Housing Development Finance with the National Development Council (EDFP, HDFP), and am a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Professional among other designations. In my “off” time I can be found exploring new cities and towns, while finding natural beauty in unexpected areas.
