Join us in Greenville, South Carolina, for a 3-Day (24-Hour) Advanced Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Course—a focused, engaging, and hands-on exploration of advanced CPTED strategies and real-world applications. Over the course of three days, you’ll dive deeper into how to create safe, sustainable, and healthy human environments through innovative design and planning.

CPTED strategies are ideal for Law Enforcement Officers, Architects, City/Urban/Park Planners, City Managers, City Council Members, Landscape Architects, Security Consultants, Educators, or anyone involved in designing neighborhoods, schools, downtowns, buildings, or revitalization efforts. Course Instructor

Brian Kornegay

CPD Instructor

Brian is a lifetime member and a past president of the Arizona Crime Prevention Association (ACPA). He has been a member of the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP) where he earned his Crime Prevention Specialist (CPS) designation. Brian is a CPTED Practitioner having received his early CPTED training from the National Crime Prevention Institute at the University of Louisville. He continued his CPTED education with the NICP and has earned the NICP’s CPTED Professional Designation (CPD).

Brian is a regular instructor in the state of Arizona on topics such as, CPTED, Crime Abatement, Crime Prevention, Physical Security Measures, Personal Safety and Community Policing. Brian has taught; at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy, post academy and in-service classes for Phoenix PD, as a guest instructor for community colleges and Arizona State University, for AZPOST (Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board) as well as at local, regional and international conferences

Brian’s CPTED Coordinator duties have him working with; developers, builders and business owners, preforming security assessments, speaking to planning committees, assisting with neighborhood charrettes, and presenting at many community meetings.

What time does it start and end?

The class will begin daily at 8:00am and end at 5:00pm Monday – Wednesday

Where is the course located?

The class will be held at the NEXT Innovation Center, located at:
411 University Ridge, Greenville, SC 29601

What should I wear?

Business casual dress is expected. (No shorts, t-shirts or flip flops)

Is parking available at the training location?

Yes! Free parking is available on-site at the training center. In the rare event of overflow, there is additional parking nearby at a local high school football stadium, which is almost always empty. To date, we’ve never seen the main lot completely full.

Where can I find nearby hotels?

You can view a map of hotels near the training center here on Google Maps. The area offers a variety of lodging options within a short drive or walk of the training site.

What can I do in Greenville during my stay?

Greenville is full of great dining, shopping, and attractions! Check out VisitGreenville.com for recommendations on restaurants, things to do, and places to stay while you’re in town.

Can I Leave Early on Thursday?

Wednesday includes group presentations of a CPTED Site Plan Review. Remaining for all the group presentations is a requirement for completing the 24 Hours of Advanced CPTED Training. The presentations and discussions as part of the curriculum. So please do not ask to have your group present first, so that you can leave early.

What Should I Bring?

A laptop or camera is not required for the Advanced CPTED courses

What are the expectations for class participation and device use?

CPTED training is designed to be a highly interactive, discussion-based learning experience. Active participation and engagement are essential to fully understand and apply the concepts presented.

To maintain the quality and integrity of the course, participants are expected to:

  • Minimize the use of cell phones and other personal devices during instruction
  • Step outside the classroom if it is necessary to take calls or respond to urgent matters
  • Remain engaged and present during lectures, discussions, and group activities

Excessive device use or lack of engagement may impact the overall learning experience for both the individual participant and the group.

We understand that professional responsibilities may require occasional attention; however, we ask that participants be mindful and respectful of the learning environment.

Instructors reserve the right to address ongoing disruptions to ensure a productive learning environment.

Is there food provided?

Coffee & Danish are provided in the morning. Lunch is not provided however we give a 90 minute break at lunch to give students enough time eat and to travel to and from the event location.

Can I transfer credits from another CPTED training provider to use toward the NICP CPTED Professional Designation (CPD)?

No. The NICP has established the curriculum and requirements for the CPTED Professional Designation (CPD) based on accepted professional standards for CPTED training. NICP’s courses include graded assignments and proctored exams that must be administered by NICP personnel. The NICP maintains the official records, scores, and a searchable international database of CPD holders. For this reason, training credits from other organizations (including FCPTI and ACPI) cannot be transferred toward NICP certification.

What is your Refund Policy?

We understand that plans can change. Here’s what you need to know about our refund process:

  • Refund Window: Refund requests are accepted up to 7 days prior to the event date. After this period, tickets become non-refundable.

  • How to Request a Refund: Please email us at support@thenicp.com with your order details to begin the refund process.

  • If You’re Unable to Attend: If you’re unable to attend and it is more than 7 days before the event, you may:

    • Transfer your ticket to another participant

    • Transfer your seat to an equivalent online course

    • Request a refund to your original payment method

  • Processing Time: Refunds are typically processed within 5–10 business days, depending on your payment provider.
